Simon heard Maxie's cell ring.
"Maybe its good news." Simon sighed thinking they had to be out on the beat. Hoping to find a clue where Katy might be. Simon was sure they didn't dare got back to the hotel room together or things might heat up.
Of course, they were drunk when it happened. It was a miserable time. Actually for both of them. They would not mention it again.
He watched Maxie. It was hard to tell what was going on. Quiet was all they needed. As it was they hadn't gotten word from the police about the investigation. They'd posted her picture everywhere. Handed out flyers. But nothing. Until now.
"Well?" Simon asked when Maxie got off his cell.
"It could be the lead we've been waiting for." Maxie looked at Simon.
"Well, what are we waiting for?"
"I don't want to be scammed. I've never heard of this Benji." Maxie shrugged. "Could be nothing, you know."
"I guess." They walked on into the plaza. "But what did he say?"
"He claims he saw her and can take us to her." Maxie sighed.
"Is he from here?"
"Don't think so." Maxie shook his head.
"Where do we meet him?" Simon squinted as the warm sun beat down and sea breeze combed their hair.
"The beach. Not far from here." Maxie told him they'd need mopeds to get there so they had to speed up their walk.
"Are you going to call the police?" Simon asked as he followed him.
"He said not too."
"Is there a ransom?" Simon caught up with him.
"Didn't sound so. I don't know what I could give him." Maxie looked at Simon.
"I just hope its not a trap." Naturally, all Simon could think of was being tied up in a dungeon. He hoped it didn't turn out that way.
